Pharmacy and compounding fees on VetsterRx

This article explains the pharmacy and compounding fees that apply to prescription orders on VetsterRx, including what each fee covers and how Vetster Plus membership affects your pricing.

What is the pharmacy fee?

When you place a new prescription order through VetsterRx, a pharmacy fee applies. This fee covers the work our care team does to review your order, coordinate with your pharmacy, and follow up on anything that needs to be resolved — like a dosing clarification or a pharmacy change.

Note: You'll see all applicable fees as clearly labeled line items in your order summary before you check out. There are no fees added after purchase.

What is the compounding fee?

Some pets need a medication that isn't available in a standard commercial form — a specific dose, a different delivery method, or a formulation that avoids an ingredient your pet can't tolerate. These are compounded medications, and they're prepared specifically for your pet by a pharmacist.

A compounding fee applies to each compounded medication in your order.

When does the pharmacy fee apply?

The pharmacy fee applies to new prescription orders only.

  • Refills: No pharmacy fee on refills.

  • Autoship reorders: No pharmacy fee on ongoing Autoship refills.

  • First Autoship order: A one-time pharmacy fee applies to your first Autoship order, since it's processed as a new prescription. Subsequent Autoship refills are not charged this fee.

Does the pharmacy fee apply if I use a local pharmacy?

Yes. If you choose to fill your prescription at a local pharmacy, the pharmacy fee still applies. It covers the care team member who verifies and coordinates the prescription with your chosen pharmacy — regardless of where it's filled.

How does Vetster Plus affect my fees?

Vetster Plus members pay 50% less on both the pharmacy fee and compounding fee compared to non-members.
